When I reinstalled the L head in goldmemeber last week I also installed a new clutch disc. Now when I press the clutch pedal in nothing happens. I had to adjust the pedal and got it to where it feels great, but the clutch just want dissengage to allow me to change gears. Any idears on what it might be. I know its the correct disc, b/c it matched the one that was in there and I know its in the correct way. Planning on dropping the tranny one night this week or this weekend to see exactly what it is, but for now I have no clue on what it could be?? If it matters any I can start it in gear and putt around the yard with no problems.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

might have to "burn" the disc down a little bit
    maybe a tad too thick...

I had a similar issue, though maybe not as severe. Did you install a new pilot bushing? Mine was snug on the shaft and wouldn't let it completely disengage. Otherwise, what Jim said sounds good, assuming your linkage is good.

try not to push the pedal all the way to the floor when shifting. It may be binding at the disc. because you have too much adjustment.

Like they said, a new disc needs a break-in period, then re-adjust.

Will it disengage when you are standing still or do you only have the problem once you get going?

Wont do it moving. The only I can make it move is start it in gear. If I start it and then try to shift it in, all I get is grinding. Think I'm gonna try and pull it against a tree and see if the starter is strong enough to "brake" it loose.

Could your friction disc be in backwards? It can't disengage if it is.

Wouldnt the clutch pedal feel loose then if it did that?? It feels like it did to begin with..

Alright just got out from under the jeep with a flashlight. The pivot arm is still piviting. Only thing I saw was the ball on the cable was out of the recessed area that it should have been sitting in and was on the end of the arm. I was in the middle of putting it back in the recess and it started raining so I came on back inside. I will put it back where it belongs but I dont see that making enough of a diff. to let the clutch engage. But hopefully it will.

Sounds correct to me, My very first trans reinstall after an engine rebuild in a CJ7 I did just that. . Something I'll never forget.

I had a very similar experence and it ended up being a warped disk, brand new, but warped. I screwed around with it for days before finally pulling it back out, put it on an arbor in a vice and spun it. It was running out at least a 1/4 inch, just enough it keep the flywheel spinning with the pedal depressed. You could put it in gear without the motor running, start it up and no problem, just don't try to shift it.
