My 58 has 16" rims. I think they are original. But I occasionally read about jeeps with 15" orginal rims. Was it an option? Year thing?

Option and year thing. Not sure what years were available with 15" and 16". I think the 16s were more common on the earlier ones, and 15" became the standard in the 60s and 70s.

My son had parked his Audi A3 near my Jeep. His tyres are low size 17" etc. His rims looked so small near my Jeep. But in fact they are same size and probably a little bigger !
The Jeep tyre is very high so the optical effect is incredible. The rims of the Jeep look bigger, but it is 16.
I say this just to post something...

My '57 has 15" Kelsey Hays wheels from the factory. I have all 5 originals.

I always figured that 15" were standard and 16" were optional if a bit heavier duty tire was desired. I would imagine that the dealer would order Jeeps based on their projected market.
