What year did they start putting turn signals on?

I have a 62 (150739) that does not have a turn signal switch on the column. I know the inspection station is going to give me hell because vehicles made after 60 in TX have to have turn signals. Would this CJ5 have had signals?

In 1962, I would think it should have them.

'62 parts manual lists them as optional equipment.

My '59 has them and I'm confident it's original. May have been a factory option but I know the original harness was wired for them.

This one has a terminal block on the driver side fender apron that has 3 terminals. One for High Beam, one for Low Beam and one for parking light. Parking lights have 2 wires exiting the sockets but the Blue ones do not have a connector. Would the factory option have added an additional terminal strip for left and right or replaced the terminal strip with one having 5 terminals? Also would they have replaced the wiring harness or just added the 2 wires and taped them in place? Trying to make it safe but looking original.

There's no terminal strip for the torn signals, the wires go direct to the sockets. Here's the section from the '62 parts manual- looks like new wiring , connectors & lamps were supplied.

Thank you very much! I think I can make it look original if I can find the switch. Just ordered Mechanics (service) Manual
Fits 46-65 CJ-2A, 3A, 3B, 5 from Kaiser Willys. Is that what you used for the information? By the way did the air filter pictures help?

The parts list is out of the 1962 parts manual- I believe reprints are available from the same outfit that prints the FSM. The wiring diagram is out of a FSM- the wiring on these things didn't change much from '55 to '71. The original equipment Spartan switches show up here & on Ebay from time to time in various states of repair, I myself use a nice gen-u-ine chromium plated Signalstat 900 (now made by "Truck Light" I believe).

Yup, the filter pic is just what I was looking for, Thanks :).

Just wanted to add my Jeep is a 1963 Texas Jeep and it did not come with the turn signal switch on the column either. Mine also has the same wiring you mention Dfaltus. Like Howard I added a Signalist 900 and everything works fine. It was easy to hook up also.

Forgot to mention - the state inspector did not even mention that it did not have the turn signal switch. You will find they check very little on a Jeep his old
