Depends on the year of 4.3 as there are different ones for different years. Bolt pattern and balance is different. Also depends on what size flywheel your bellhousing will accept. Again, there are differences. Some bellhousings designed for the 153 tooth flywheel will not allow use of a 168 tooth flywheel. There should be some casting numbers on the bellhousing and id numbers on the engine to help you identify what you have and hence what you need.

ok i will get the numbers from the bell. not sure what year engine to use yet. something that is easy to work on if need be. i was thinking a tbi would be easiest to transplant into the cj6 i bought but open to suggestions.

I want to say '86 and older use the old standard SBC crank bolt pattern and some '86 and newer use the smaller bolt pattern when they went to the one piece rear main seal. If you want fuel injection TBI is by far one of the easiest to use and parts are readily available. Be aware you will need a return line to the tank. There are some electronics that can be eliminated like the egr stuff as well that should not set a code.

the return line should not be too bad of a job. but i think i'm going to need a good fuel pump though.

I used the flywheel clutch and pressure plate from the Chevy S-10. Everything works with the SM465. As for the balance of the flywheel? Can't help there. This is one of the questions I had. So I bought the manual transmission truck and used all the parts I needed.

I want to say when the bolt pattern changed the balance changed. It may have changed also when the balance shaft was introduced but I cannot remember for sure.

Also, depending on bellhousing you have it may need machined to fit the SM 465 front bearing retainer as it is larger than most GM front bearing retainers.
