Is something supposed to be under the tank? If yes, about how thick is it?
My '67 has oak strips, I guess 9/16" or 5/8"....
Just measured... 1/2" thick..HTH
When I removed mine to clean it out it had a hard cardboard type stuff . So I used some tool box drawer lining double thickness and single under the straps ,nice fit.
mine had oil cloth strips, similar to whats found between the grill and hood
mine had a rust hole as big as the tank glad i read this thred so there is supposed to be something between the floor and tank to prevent rubbing
Mine had roofing tar!
thanks, I can fab some rubber strips to get the 1/2 inch thick.
thanks again for the fast responses.
mine has a rubber floor mat.
I use flat rubber bungee cords like the truckers use and cut them to length. Cheap and work great! Leaves a slight gap under the tank for blowing junk out to keep the tank from rusting. Nickmil
Good idear! Didja glue 'em down? I'm thinking the yellow 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive (gorilla snot) would work good.
