I just got a '52 -M38A1 - The PO picked some of the low hanging fruit and left the rest. The grille should have hinges, but they are missing. From all pics I see, they appear to be the same as the tailgate hinges from any CJ-x. Do you guys know if they ARE the same?

    Thanks,

Noticed that my earlier hinges (1965) have smaller holes than the later (1969) hinges that I have. Shouldn't make a difference, just more room for adjustment.
Are you going to restore or fix it up to drive?
    Pictures are always nice.

I was going to part it out, but the more I looked at it, the better it started looking to me. I decided to keep it and get it back to running/safe/condition. It is a USMC jeep, so it'll be the darker semi-gloss Marine corps. green - rathern than the flat OD of my Willys.

The A1 is resting comfortably in the shed - out of the weather. I already got the Battery Box cover and gauge cluster for it. I'll keep looking for parts and pick them up when I can. The A1 should really be project # 5, but it may happen sooner than others. Bubba mounted an undermount radio & 6X9 speaker in the dash. When I removed the speaker grille, I was expecting one large hole for the speaker, but NO..., Bubba drilled 67 little holes in the dash so the music could make it through the dash & out the plastic grille cover. I've got to get some more argon so I can mig up those little holes.

I'm mounting Ma Duce in the '42 MB and have another pintle & cradle. I thought about mounting those in the M38A1, but since it already has a rollbar and I'll just leave the rollbar and leave the .50 for the MB. I'll get pics of the A1 on Sunday.

Check it out and see if it has Powerlock Limited slips. Lots of the Marine Corps M38a1's were ordered with them.

Any obvious visible distinctions for this? What am I looking for? I will jack up rear and spin a wheel this weekend. That WOULD be nice to have!

    Thanks,

Jacking it up works good. Can also pull diff fill plug from the cover and look inside. If you see bolt heads on the case you have Powerlocks.
