It just won't idle when warm. If I rev it, it will stay running.

If I disconnect the choke and manipulate it manually, same problem.
The fuel filter at the carb inlet is the glass filter that I can see inside of

I forgot to ask about the hold down bolts for the carburetor. Any chance they have bottomed out and are not pulling the base down tight?

tight to the intake manifold? I sprayed carb cleaner at the base while it was running and got no increase in revs. I replaced that gasket on Wed. I assume they are ok?

That tells us it's most likely a shellac buildup or a clogged jet in the carb. Doing that forces fuel to enter though the venturis to compensate what it isn't getting through the idle jets.

Go to napa and grab their carb dip tank. It comes in a gallon paint can. Follow the instructions and try it again. It can't hurt.

When you drove it did it seem to have plenty of power? Take your foot off of the gas and it just immediately dies out, or coughs and sputters and then dies?

Probably ok, it's just easier to verify and be sure of tightness with studs versus bolts.

I agree. Using the spray cans with a tube after that helps verify that circuits are clean and free since you can see the liquid go through it versus just blowing air and assuming. Brake cleaner or the like in spray cans is your friend. :)

This is why you wear your safety goggles while doing it =P

(Actually, I forget about 90% of the time, and end up shooting myself in the face....)

That is why you spray yourself in the face ahead of time so you get that little issue out of the way already. :);)

The dip buckets are a good idea but they get gross over time and you end up buying another...and...

I popped the $80 on the HF Ultrasonic Cleaner and it works wonders. You can just use water, soapy water, Simple Green or Purple Power (preferred, it doesn't discolor metal like SG does). It can heat up the parts and clean things in a couple of minutes (auto shut off) or reset and start again for a deeper cleaning. I cleaned my 45 year old carb and couldn't smell fuel in it...Almost drank my coffee out of it. :D

I will hit up HF today and get the carb sparkling clean!
I'll spray myself in the face while the cleaner runs it's cycle.

It seems to have good power. It does die immediately when taking foot off the gas. I wonder if a matched flamethrower coil couldn't hurt...

Good to know. I've never used either. I recommended the bucket from others' experiences. Personally, I've held the bucket in my hands, on the fence about buying it, and had a hard time paying the price for an expensive can of what the ingredients say is nothing more than fels naptha (paint thinner). I assumed there must be more to it, but you're probably just paying for the fancy dipping strainer it comes with.

What about the reference point on the brass float for when I'm putting back together after the cleaning? Where on that float do I measure to?

I honestly can't see it helping anything at this point.

Yep. I've only bought one of these because of the reason you gave. It worked great but it's slow and now it's syrupy after I only used it once...Years ago. Plus if the little parts fall out of the basket you have to sift through the dark murk. I still have one on the shelf...Just can't seem to toss it because I'm too cheap.

Purple Power is my go to...You can dilute to suit. <--- Didn't mean to make them a slogan.
