Does anyone have pictures of what the originals look like? I'm the new owner of a 58' CJ-5 and am having problems tracking down accurate information. Thanks in advance!

That looks quite original to me. You probably know that the wheels are different, and that the aluminum strips on the sides and bumper were added by the previous owner (PO). You have a modern top - not sure exactly what was available in '58, but the door handles on your top are modern. Paint looks original - take a look at the paint chips on the CJ-3B site http://www.film.queensu.ca/cJ3B/Paint2.html - looks most like Mallard Blue Poly to me (Poly means metallic). You may have a paint and trim tag on the firewall.

What questions did you have? Post up sme more pics and we can comment further.

<edit> Oh, I should look at the thread title.

There were two styles of seats available - bench and "bucket." Both have a 'fold and tumble' passenger seat for access to the back. The seat back folds down and the seat hinges forward to allow rear-seat passengers to step through. The driver's side bracket goes from the door opening to the middle of the Jeep, spanning the fuel tank.

There's no source for period-accurate seats and seat brackets other than another Jeep. However, the seats and brackets from any 55-75 CJ will work, though the style changed in the early 60s (?) sometime.

The tank style did not change from 1955 through mid 1970.

Here too, post some pictures of what you've got and we can tell you if it's correct or not.

    Wouldn't a '58 have the flat-cushion 'buckets' like the 3B?

BKD's seat frames are correct for the 58 but the cushions appear to be modified, more rounded like the 66 to 75 type. By the way the seats look great I like the two tone kinda classy:)

Seats from '55 up until '64 looked like these-

These seats ware integrated right into the mounting frame & don't fold although the passenger side flipped forward for tool box access.

From '64 on up till the early 70's they looked like ones in BKD's pic above, these were made by Bostrom and did indeed fold forward to allow easier access to the back. They were adjustable on mounts (those are post '64 style mounts sitting on the floor in the picture)

There were also a split bench seat option available all the way through.

The seats do come up for sale now & then but you'll probably be looking for a while. When you do find some for some reason shipping will turn out to be murder :(
