Next weekend, I'm going to take the axles out of the Jalopy and put them under my new frame. I am worried about the angle of my driveshafts. What is the maximum angle that and can give the axle? I know that the oil needs to reach the pinion bearings.

20 degrees is really pushing it. If you have to tilt the pinion up high a trick is to use a high pinion cover off of a Ford 44 front end. The fill plug is higher due to the pinion bearings being higher. This helps quite a bit. Make sure the axle seals are in good shape and vents will work with the higher oil level though.

Thanks Nick. 20°, I think my rear has 3° caster shims and that looks like a wicked angle. I think my front will be OK with the longer driveshaft. I was mostly worried about my rear with the short shaft. Will the ford 44 cover fit the model 41? I'm thinking not because the 41 is more oval shaped where the 44 has vertical sides...

The 44 cover won't fit the 41. If you need to raise the oil level you could drill and tap the cover or better yet weld in a bung for a fill plug up higher

my rear is pretty dang steep i ought to measure the angle for giggles. i forget what i did with the driveshafts but i mixed and matched ends to get the right lengths. i think i used a front slip yoke from a comanchee pickup for the front of mine because it was an inch or so longer. the splines were the same as the 2a. to fill the rear i just pump it overfull and quick put the plug in. i really ought to raise the fill hole though. shoulda done it when i put the locker in.
