If all the parts matched...it should work.
There are different length throwout bearings, and different height pressure plates.

He looked at the old clutch and said it was hardly worn. Which tells me the bearing on that one was short too!! The clutch slipped real bad from the day I got it. So I guess I'm on the hunt for a longer one. I called Novak but the guy described a different shape. Anyone know if the dauntless used a GM style throw out bearing?

Can the friction plate be put in backwards??? Explain to me how this would make it so the throw out bearing wouldn't push. Not being wise, just want to picture it in my head and understand. Thanks

So the clutch won't engage, right? You are using a Rock Auto kit for a factory Jeep Dauntless clutch set up, but the clutch will not move at all. Can you verify the position of the TO bearing relative to the pressure plate when the clutch is full in and full out?

I suspect faulty assembly. Is the clutch friction disc facing the right way?

If the clutch slipped real bad then that shouldn't be because of the throwout bearing being too short. I agree with 47V6 suggesting the disc may be in backwards, I'd be considering that first.

Yes it can be backwards, you wouldn't be the first to do it. I haven't done a V6 clutch, but I imagine you can hold it against the flywheel and determine the right way. Also it should be marked somewhere "flywheel side".

Also remember that the T/O bearing DIS-engages the clutch by pushing the pressure plate away from the disc.

I will talk to the instructor tomorrow about it. I will say that with this new clutch installed, when you push the clutch there is zero resistance on the pedal. Full motion of the fork. So I'm not understanding how a backwards friction disk would do this. It's more like the throw out bearing isn't even pushing on the pressure plate at all. I adjusted the slave rod all the way and the fork goes all the way as far as it can. BTW it has a hydrolic clutch set up.

Ok, this is partly a misunderstanding of what you meant, plus you have, or had 2 different issues along with not knowing you had a hydraulic clutch which may or may not make a difference.

So the hydrolic slave is working fine! It's pushing the fork all the way. Just zero resistance on the pedal. Like i said,it's like the TO bearing isn't touching the pressure plate. Hence my frustration. Any ideas??

Isn't there a boot on the side of the bellhousing where someone can watch the fork moving?

The fork is moving. As it should. Full range of front to back motion when you press the pedal. Just no resistance.

That's good, but is it actually pushing the release bearing against the pressure plate fingers?
Sounds like the release bearing and fork slipped out of place so the fork (arm) is not pushing the release bearing against the pressure plate assembly fingers. Removing the boot and watching the actual action of the release bearing can tell a lot. I've seen this happen before with the symptoms you describe.

It does sound like the throwout bearing is too short. Since it slipped real bad and the parts were installed the same you might still have that issue too. Others have probably had the release problem, hopefully they will chime in.

If it is a Standard Heavy Buick flywheel..........the cavity in the flywheel is not deep enough for the clutch plate to be reversed..........it will drop in but rock there.

I'm curious if you even have enough travel in your hydraulic slave cylinder? Lots of systems that are not set up correctly will end up being either short on travel or have the wrong length throughout bearing...........hence the reason Novak made the adjustable collar........Novak Fully Adjustable Throwout Bearings. Pictures of what you have and how it's connected would be nice.............it may even be just a simple linkage adjustment.

The slave has plenty of travel. It can be adjusted so the fork pushes all the way as far as it can go and back. I adjusted as far as I could and still nothing. I looked at Novak but I don't know which style I need. A little more research is necessary. Haha. Thanks

I just put my clutch in . I had to adjust the linkage to get the TO bearing to push against the fingers of the pressure plate .The throw out bearing was not going in far enough !

The TB-1 should be it...........but I think you need to first get a mirror and look inside the clutch cover to see what is going on inside.......Novak also sells and adjustable ball that allows you to move the fork forward.............which acts in much the same way as if you had a longer bearing...........in either case the linkage and perhaps the mounting of the slave cylinder may also have to be changed to make it correct..............pictures would be nice!
