Some threads back, I discussed issues with my 2100 and decided to go with a Holley on top of my square bore intake. I purchased a Holley 600 cfm from National Carburetors. It is their version of a Truck Avenger where they took an 80457 and put the same guts in it as the TA. It is tuned for a small block V8. Out of the box I got flooding on the first attempt at cranking. My thoughts are the float is stuck, and they did tell me that does sometimes happen in shipment. My specific question here is, what fuel pressure is typical with a brand new Carter mechanical fuel pump? I can't find that specified number on the web and the Holley is supposed to prefer 7 psi. Thanks.

Best thing for you to do is get a fuel pressure guage and check what your pump puts out.
Pop that carb apart and take a look inside. No carb works flawlessly right out of the box.
