So I'm in the middle of restoring my 1967 Jeepster Commando half cab and I have been researching options for restoring my dash pad. The original red dash pad has a few cracks and a burn mark. The only place I could find that can recover it in the original style (with no sewn in seams) is a place called Just Dashes in CA. and they quoted me $750 plus shipping to recover my dash. That's just insane! So in looking for alternatives I found a used dash pad in perfect condition. Only problem is that it's black. So here's my questions:

Is it doable to change a black dash into a red one? Does anyone have any experience or recommendations with either vinyl paint or dye to accomplish this? And which has better results with color changing - paint or dye?

    Thanks!

I would rather get the dashpad recovered red with seams, just try to get it to compliment the seats.

I have used vinyl dye to redo several old car interiors and have had been more than pleased with the results. Again just like any thing else prep is very important and don't rush. Eastwood Company makes some good stuff
