Some of the real joys of working to refurbish this old jeep are the unexpected things that turn up. Cast dates, nearly bullet proof construction, and now this. I've been cleaning the engine compartment and removing over spray and deliberate spray from parts that should not be painted. This could not have been done to save weight. Looks like spun aluminum, or maybe some combination of stamping and spun aluminum. HALL LAMP is stamped on the back, along with the number 2...

I am not sure what years/models got the aluminum buckets and have not found any information on that but have run into them a number of times. Using a pair on my 1955 3B but think it had the steel versions in stock form. Besides shaving 3 to 4 lbs off the vehicle weight, they polish up nice if you are into that.

I did a little searching on the internet and found that the C.M. Hall lamp company of Detroit had been around since the 1800's, and may still be making lamps. They made brass carbide lamps for bicycles, oil lamps for early autos, tractor lamps, you name it. Some of those ornate brass lamps you see hanging on the old brass era cars were made by C.M. Hall. Pretty cool.

No doubt they saved a few pounds, it just seemed odd to me that they would try to save a little weight on the headlight buckets when nearly everything else is built like a tank.

I will buff them a little. I have some Simichrome polish and plenty of rags...John's look fantastic. That must have taken some time!

That bucket might not been exclusive to Jeep. I know the headlight rings were the same on some old RV's and delivery trucks

It makes sense to me that they would have designed the jeep to accept an existing bucket, rather than designing a bucket exclusively for the early jeep...maybe a visit to ebay will turn up a similar bucket for different uses....
