Wondering how close they may be to each other?

Having a few problems pop up and could use an idiot guide. Looking to completely replace/ upgrade fuel lines and anything related while I have the tank off.

I am leaking fuel from a valve on the top driver side forward corner of the tank. The hose is missing. I have no idea what it is or where it's going. Jeep runs but the leak is right above the exhaust! I noticed my fuel gauge also stopped working and when I turn the ignition off it wants to sputter or keep going. It has become harder to start too. If you miss getting it fired from the start, you'll have to wait a bit or starter fluid it.

If you haven't guessed yet, I am no mechanic. But I can learn.
    Thanks for any help.

The M170 manuals (if they are available) will be reprints of the military manuals. They will have little in common with the civilian Jeep manuals, other than the specs and procedures for the major drivetrain components.

You want this manual: http://thejeep.com/shop/TECH+MANUAL...ECH+MANUAL+CJ3B+CJ5%252F6+12V+4+%2526V-6.html (I linked to this supplier only because it's handy - you can buy this book lots of places). Avoid the generic manuals, ie Haynes or Chiltons. You want the factory manual, like this one.

Re the specific problem, you have the rear tank? The parts and connections should be very close to that pictured in the 1972 manual. There is a 1972 manual online here - http://trailforge.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24&Itemid=30 - look at Section 4, figure 2.

Missing Vapor separator/expansion tank might be part of the problem. Who needs that......?

Cap the tank vents and use a vented gas cap. You'll lose the desirable vapor recovery function, but it'll work. Or look for an expansion tank. You could try a WTB here and on other sites, and J&W probably has one.

I would also make sure that the '70 is the same as a '72. Probably, but no guarantee. Emissions gear changed rapidly in that era, so don't assume.
