If there is a trick to attaching the speedo cable to the transmission, I'd be eternally grateful if somone woud share it with me. It took 10 seconds to unscrew the old one, but I couldn't get the new one on in 1.5 hours of trying. Try not to laugh when you read this.

For the life of me I can't get the nut on the end of the cable on the threads to screw it on.

Check that collar for being out of round. they're kind of thin and it doesn't take much to squash them a bit. Seen that right out of the package.

Make sure the core is pushed all the way up into the back of the speedo else the core will stick out so far you won't be able to screw the cap onto the xfer case driven coupler.

Make sure you are using the correct end. One end cap is larger than the other. The large end goes on the tranny/transfer case. Small end cap goes on the speed-O. Been a while since I did one but pretty sure that is correct!

I just had the same issue. Unscrew the output unit on the transfer case then pull the speedo gear rod (its the rod that the cable plugs into with a small gear on the end) out and clean the pee out of that wee tiny square hole, make sure the cable fits ALL THE WAY INSIDE and then put it all back...only takes about 5 minutes and it fixed me right up.
