Cutlass Hubs????

I just bought another CJ-5 off of Ebay for parts, and it is supposed to have the original Dana 30 front axle, however the hubs are odd looking and the knurled knob on the end is engraved CUTLASS. Anyone ever heard of these? When I get a chance, I'll try to remember to snap a pic. Thanks!

I think I have some of the hub you are talking about. I will get a picture.

I have a 1966 four wheeler mag with an ad for the cutlass hubs with the knurled knob. I also had some hubs that came on my 67 that had 2 "screws" that were turned with a big standard screwdriver to engage and disengage, as I recall these were Cutlass hubs also (maybe an earlier design?).

Since the ad was in a 1966 magazine, I would have to say they would be 10 spline. Dana 30s are all 27 spline I believe. Have you verified it is fact a dana 30? Maybe Cutlass continued making hubs into the dana 30 time frame? Or maybe it is a dana 27? Open or closed knuckles?

Well, It looks like the Dana 30 that is under my other '75 CJ, and the fellow I got it from said the whole drivetrain was original.

    Re: Cutlass Hubs

When I picked up my 74 it had cutlass hubs on there. I have a set of warn hubs on now just because I rebuilt the front end. But the Cutlass jobs are on the shelf for spares. I don't know if they will stand up to heavy wheeling, but they lasted just fine for the street.

    Hi

The Cutlass hubs were made by Cutlass Gear Co. They were located in Vinton Ia. The made hubs for jeeps and Blazers. The made manual and automatics. When the full time 4 wheel drive came out they jsut could not compete price wise with the large manufauictures. They have been out of business for a long time. They used my 72 Blazer for a test truck.Hope this helps. Let me know if i can be of any more help.
