Some time before I'll need them, but I thought I'd start early. Been poking around the internet, and various forums, parts manuals, and service manuals, but can't see to find what I'm looking for. So I thought "why not go to the collective CJ5 hive mind".

Does anyone know where I can find reproductions of the under hood / engine bay decals for the 1972 model year? Specifically the timing / emissions decal for the grill.

I found 2 sources, but they don't match what is left of my original.

AMC Bruce has a version that is also being offered on eBay. Along with the 304 air cleaner, and coolant stickers. They can get a number of different year and engine combinations. But they don't match the Jeep decal.

Bear Creek Survey offers a wealth of decals / stickers. They also offer a timing decal. Closer to the one I have, but still not quite right.

If you can't think of a source, do you have a better photo of this sticker? How about shots of a stock - vintage - engine bay?

Since I'm away from the Jeep on vacation for 2 weeks. I thought id put some time in on the emissions decal. Despite my searching I've still not seen one quite like the original on my Jeep.

Still have some details to work out. If you have any thoughts, or a photo of one that looks like the one above - post it up.

When I get this finished I'll upload a vector based one for the community. And get a couple printed.

    Progress so far:

We ought to have a database with decals and stuff like that in it. That would be a great help to the rest of us.

Thats interesting, I wonder if that points to a mid year change in design? Do you mind sharing your VIN, or posting your build date from the VIN decal on the dash?

Ill reconfirm my build date and update the 1st post with the date.

Id be happy to wright up a tech article at the end that details what we find. Including images and sources.

Mabey we can get lucky and get Phonex Graphics to start producing any new versions we find.

I'd just be happy with a spot in the Tech section that has picts of different stickers, vin tags, etc and line art if anyone was going to get some made. Something we could print out and take to a sticker company and have made.

For instance, there were a few of us that had some new vin tags made. They guy makes them custom and only does them is short batches. Very good quality. But I don't remember his name. I'd have to dig it out and look at the envelope to get the company. But this is information we need to keep track of because lots of us will need it at some point in the future.

None of that is going to match up. Tub and grill are '73. I had 3 grills, from 72, 73 w/304, and a 73 w/232, but I got rid of the 72 grill and I already scraped the 73/304 sticker off. The only one I have left is this one:

A little more searching and I managed to find an image from a 1972 sticker over on the IFSJ forum. Between it, my sticker and one from a member over on jeep forum I think I may have a candidate.

Membership seems to be closed on the IFSJ forum, buy you can find the original thread here

I still need to fix the "corporation" font. It needs to be slightly italicized and I don't have a font that matches.... Once it's finished I'll upload an EPS and PDF if you want to have one printed. And I'll let you know how my printing turns our

I also started a similar thread on jeepforum and got some responses for other years as well as 1972. I plan on gathering them all up as an effort to start building up a guide for other looking for the correct decal and it's placement. Stay tuned..

I'v placed some copies on DropBox. Feel free to download and use how you like. At this link you should find 4 files in various formats:

    - Adobe Illustrator CS5 version - one layer with outlined fonts, one layer with editable fonts
    - A PDF version, you should be able to have the decal printed from this version
    - An EPS version just incase anyone needs it
    - A PNG version so you know what it looks like

It's not 100%, but it's close snuff for me. The biggest discrepancy is with the "CORPORATION" font at the bottom of the decal. I don't have the correct font face. But the one I used is relatively close.

If you have problems accessing the link just drop me a PM and I can email you the file. Have fun and don't forget to post up your results and who you had do the printing. I'll do the same once I get it printed.
