M-38/CJ2 and 3: IHeat shield between the exhaust pipe and brake master/reservoir??

    Is there supposed to be a heat shield between the exhaust pipe and the brake master cylinder on these old flat fenders? The exhaust pipe runs pretty close to the master cylinder and reservoir. Just wondering if there is supposed to be some kind of heat shield between exhaust pipe and master?
