I’m finishing my D18 transfer case rebuild and I’m installing the double lipped oil seals. I started with the rear output and I installed the new seal all the way down until it seated and after seeing where the yoke shaft would ride on the seal I determined that the seal was seated too low. The new seal is .300 thick and the old single lip seal is .500 thk so I decided to stop and make a spacer washer that is .200 thick so the seal will ride in the same location as the single lip seal. I will destroy the new seal getting out but I figure this is cheap insurance to try and limit the new oil leaks in my fresh rebuild. If anyone is interested I made 3 sets of spacers and I would happy to share the remaining 2 sets if someone is doing the same work.
