I'm in the process of rebuilding the oil pump in my 1967 Dauntless 225ci , I have the gasket that came with the oil pump rebuild kit , and the same gasket that came with the gasket set for the engine overhaul . Neither gasket has the cutout for the rectangular slot at the bottom of the two halves ! Is it needed ? should I cut it out ? I'll try to attach a pic . Thanks in advance for any help . the service manual picture shows a cut out, but the gasket design may have been revised at some point.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking at too , just can't understand why two separate manufacturers , and no cutout !

If there are no oil passages either side then leave the gasket as designed.

IIRC there is a passage in the pump cover, but not in the pump housing. The hole in the gasket isn't needed.
