I recently picked up a K-code 289 on craigslist and want to put this in my jeep. Has anybody done this before? Where can I find some cheap parts to help me add a dana 18 to my ford automatic.

Yah if its truly a k code 289 dont even think about putting it in your jeep...but also understand that every engine ever put in a 65/66 mustang is a "hi pro" 289...99% chance you have a run of the mill 289/302 but doesnt hurt to check

That sounds like an interesting swap, if you do it, do a build thread on it!

I'd love to swap my Boss 302 into a jeep someday, I wonder if it would fit..... :smash:

They do - we used to do it all the time before switching to the V6s. The 283/289 was the main engines put in when I was a kid.

I don't think the Vin is on the block in 65. My 65 chev does not have the vin, just the las 4 diggits.

k code mustang production varied from 1-2.8 % of total new mustangs sold in 1964.5 through 1966

Didn't the first Bronco's have the 289/T90/D18 package in them?

The K code should be the same external dimensions as all other 289's. The Boss 302 heads were different and may make the overall package wider and taller. Port and valve sizes would make a Boss 302 less than ideal in a 4X4 IMO.
