I can probably get a picture or two of the linkage on my 81 Eagle. It's a 2 barrel carb but should be the same as or very close to what yours is.

Kind of hard to get good pictures of it installed since there's not a lot of room in an Eagle but this will get you started. I have a complete setup here somewhere if I can lay my hands on it. As soon as I find it all I'll lay it out the way it hooks up, easier to show it that way.

Your new trans also has a lock up converter to wire up. Are you making your DJ into 4x4? The linkage is for trans to shift not just a kick down.

Here's a better picture from the side.

A 999 may or may not have a lockup convertor, chances are it doesn't though. Even if it does they aren't controlled electrically, it's all internally controlled.

It may have done something but it didn't lockup the convertor. 904, 998, 999, 727 never used an electric lockup.

well i sort of for got about this thread

um ok the linkage i have will nor work from what it looks like the carb on the dj has the throttle linkage pulling from right to left and that linkage looks like it mount under the intake and pulls down and i am missing a conecting rod

never mind it will work after i make the conecting rod

yes it is being converted to 4wd and on the wiring it looks like all the only one 3 or 4 prong plug on the side near the front i figured it was for a nss and back up lights

i am also thinking about getting a kick down cable from lokar

I was thinking you'd probably have a problem with the carb linkage. That bracket bolts to the intake and there is no provision for that on the early one barrel intakes. Lokar would be the way to go. And you are correct, that switch is neutral safety and backup lights only.

My trans had a 2 plugs on it one you could unplug and converter would not lock up other was neutral and back up lights. I work as trans mechanic its the only jeep one I ever saw. I would like to know more about your plans on DJ.

good 2 things my brother don't need

well the dj belongs to my brother we bought it cause the price was right ($400 and has a solid body which is shocking cause it came from chicago IL post office) cause the 2wd trans was toast and i had all the parts to make it a 4x4 all i am going to do is get it running on 33's

so here are the planned specs
    engine: stock 232 ci 6cly
    trans: tf999
    t-case d300
front axle: narrow track d30 w/3.73 gears
rear axle: narrow track d44 w/3.73 gears
and eventually a full exo cage
    leather grand prix seats
old skool 33" bfg muds w/ 75% tread that we paid $150 for

the reason for the narrow track axles is that i am going to maintain the functionality of the sliding doors it is going to be a pita but i got an idea

and as of now we are still on budget to have it running and driving for less than a grand (asssuming the trans is good all we have done is pull the pan and replaced the filter it looks good and the fluid was pink and not burnt we are hoping for the best)

I have one that is older flat grill. I want to make it 4x4 using parts from a early CJ7. But I need to get some other stuff done first and I use CJ7 to get fire wood. Mine is in good shape. Most of the ones I have seen are rust free very strange they must not be related to CJ :)

right now i am working on making the doors work normally and what springs to use on the rear cause the dj is soa stock with a real flat spring so i need a lift spring to make it level with the front in an sua application to match the front cause we are swaping both axles toget a the matching gear ratio cause stock ratio in the dj was 3.07 but if i cant make the cj5 d44 axle work i will regear the dj5 axle right now for a lift we are running 2.5" lift springs and a 1" shackle lift to fit the 33's (the stock springs was rearched for a 2" lift but leaves me with a near vertical shackle angle the lift springs fix that) and i am going to make the rear match right now we are looking at some waggy springs and a shackle with a 6" bolt hole to bolt hole measurement but first we are getting it running and driving then make the tires fit i got 1 month to get it running driving and on 33's for its break in run

yes that is what i hear just put hinges on it but i got a piano hinge 2 sets of doors and a welder and some square tube it may look a little wired or idea 2 go get a door of a caravan and reverse inginneer cause they pop out about 4" so that will clear the 33's but i wll try the first idea first
