I've run a dana 27 in my ecj5 and blew apart the spider gears. From that moment on I said I want a better axle. I lost out on alot of fun that day. I upgraded to a dana 30 and enjoyed that. I will continue to run the dana 30 on the 5. The flat fender needs a complete overhaul, and the stock yj spring under with a dana 44 is the 1st group of mods. Once its built and I find it will not pass a Pa inspection I will add 4.5" yjs and stay spring under and run 33's-35's. But I'd like to have the dana 44 already built and springs set. Since I lack the skills and tools to set-up gears I would much rather have the axle I would eventually run re-geared then have to buy 2 lockers and gears for 2 different axles and pay for somebody to set the up.

Why in the world would somebody want a dana 30 narrowed to a d25,d27 width? Isn't that only like 3 extra inches? Although I like the width of the NT dana 30, if I go with the 35's I think I'd like the extra width for that tall of a tire. A WT width I think fits the bill a little better. Just personal preference.

I picked up a 1986 cj7 dana 44 rear end today. Looks like it wont look all that out of place now.
