1979 CJ7 258 in CA EGR question

    Does anybody know if a 1979 CJ7 in California is supposed to have a positive backpressure EGR valve vs. the negative backpressure EGR. I need to smog my jeep and the EGR opens too early and bogs the jeep. It has the negative type EGR on it currently. Put a vacuum delay valve on it which helps a little but think it may have the wrong EGR.
