So this Jeep I got is really rusted in the floor and supports. Can't imagine much worse. I'm just making a farm vehicle, so just going to get it solid, no trophy queen. My trans tunnel is the bolted on type. Not sure what I'll do, weld it or bolt, maybe leaning to welding. My tunnel piece is pretty rusted as well. I know I can "fix" the one I had, but perhaps will look for a good used one first. Anyone know of one available used?
I bought the crappy floor panels, but I can make them work. Its like a jigsaw puzzle with the wrong pieces :) One purchase is working out well. I bought the cheap rear floor supports. I took a chance and bought two sets of them, figured I could make them into front floor supports. I have started that and its working out well. I do not have a picture of that yet. So just so you see what I'm dealing with here, . . pics. I do rust repair all the time, no big deal. But these lousy panels make it hard, especially since I did not know what the floor should really look like. I think I have figured most out now, just need to make everything work. I didn't wantg the expense of a $700 to my door floor, so I choose to have fun and piece it together. maybe someone out there can get inspried on their project by seeing what I'm doing.chainsawguy

also . . the diagonal support under the floor that is used for a body mount . . . on the right side ( passenger floor ) I have a bracket ( L shaped )attached to the frame that is used for a mount. However, when I looked on the left side ( drivers ) there was no such bracket on the frame . . missing?? I don't see a spot on the frame where it would have been attached. I can't imagine a body mount that is not symmetrical, side to side. Whats going on here?

Looks like you used the wrong floor panels. Here is the floor for a '64. It's a M38a1 so for a CJ it shouldn't have the 3 1/2" gas tank well. On a CJ the floor is flat and the floor support channel is like the passenger side.

The front floor support has a mount where you feet would be. One on the drivers side and one on the passenger side.

There's no well as you say and I'm not trying to make a perfect floor, just solid. But back to the question . . is there a bracket attached to the frame on both sides right in front of the leaf spring mount? There is on the right, how about the left???? I have the support piece made ( already said all of this ) to work on the right and left side. My question is about the bracket attached to the frame and whether it should be on the left as well.

Here's what I mean . . . . look at this pic, notice two brackets off the frame
    [IMG]

now look at the left side, only one

so mine is not missing the bracket. But . how can this be?? Why two mounts on the right and only one on the left?? Doesn't seem right.

    My '59 looks like yours.

Do a search. I know I've seen a pic from the FSM posted on here from time to time.

FWIW-I am going to just make a floor on mine with square tub and some sheet metal. I spent some time staring at it and in my case it is easier to start over. A little time with some standard steel supplies and your good to go.

    I wish you well.

Leftover design feature from the M38A!, the military had a deeper gas tank that fit down into a well in the floor right where you'd expect the "missing" body mount to be.

So it was missing the mount because of the tank well. That's stupid of them :) Well I'm adding one there, it should be there. Thanks for answering my question.

However, next question was about the bolt down tunnel . . no one has one or knows where I can call or look? I want to try and find one before I go to the trouble of repairing the one I have . . I think mine is about 40% missing :)

I'm sorry, I'm not sure of your point in showing that full floor. Did you ready my posts?

Well, at least it serves as an illustration of the pieces. I presume you are looking for the center section that bolts in. There's also a smaller transmission cover that I see is present in your picture above.

Technically, buying and selling is banned in the discussion forums. But maybe somebody in your area with what you need will pick up on your thread and send you a PM. There's also a WTB forum here for such searches.

It would help to put your location in your sig. I Googled "Pete's Ponies" and it appears that you are located in the Baltimore area.

I'm sure you appreciate that the parts that are rusted on your Jeep are likely to be rusted on most Jeeps that are still out there. The floor gathers debris and water. Most people here would take the route that you suggested in your earlier post, ie piece together what's missing from flat stock and standard shapes. You might find a complete southwest tub with intact floors and hat channels, but it's worth more intact than cut up. There are a lot more intact chassis out there than bodies.

I would be very interested to see how you apply your metal working skills to this issue. I'm sure many others on the forum would too.

The illustration shows that the entire floor including the two bolt on tunnel covers and the tranny cover are available as repop units. The two removable bolt in tunnel panels referrred to in the original post are shown there and yes I read the original post. You asked for availability and I posted one option above. Another is to simply cruise Ebay where I often see the M38/M38A1 tunnel covers are often offered for sale both used and NOS and are the same and fit the CJ opening as well.

Here's the upper half of the cover plate on ebay now:
