I'm getting ready to assemble my transfer case this weekend, I've got the Novak rebuild kit with the new inter. shaft, couple of new gears and I'm going to buy the double lip seals. My question for those that have installed these seals do you seat them down to the same level or do you spacer them up to ride on the same shaft location as the single lip seal?

    Thanks,
    Chip.

Next week I'm starting the T-18 rebuild.

Generally speaking, seals should be driven fully into their seats.

I assume you are talking about the front and rear output seals. I don't see why it would be a problem to leave the seal 1/8" up from the seat so it rides on a new area of the shaft. Just press it in far enough so the yoke doesn't hit it.

Also there is enough room for 2 shift rods seals on each rod. This ensures a good seal. Another trick is to smear RTV around the intermediate shaft ends once it is installed in the case. Wipe the excess off with your finger and it looks great. ;)
