It's been a while again, but I had to tear the motor apart a second time and clean everything as the fuel pump base broke off in the case and was stuck! The frame is at the sandblasters shop right now and will get that back sometime next week:p

    Long bock completed....finally

Tin, altnernator, and exhaust..... now it's looking more like a motor for a sandrail!

It's a thing of beauty! Too bad you had to get back into the engine, but it sure looks nice. Do you think it's going to be loud? ;)

Got the transaxle all cleaned up this weekend and the motor pretty much buttoned up. I will install the headers and stinger after it's back in.

Bought a mini furniture dolly at HF for $11 and works great for moving the transaxle around.

    Positioned for cleaning

Amazing what simple green and a little elbow grease can do.

Finished product using Krylons engine paint. Chose flat black.

    Motor all finished

Will get the frame back on Friday and then more fun!

Got the frame back last week. All pretty now. Sandblasted, epoxy primer, and implement paint from tractor supply. Color is New Holland Red.....and it is RED!

Back in the garage....the jeep got kicked out:cry:

These are the leaves that go in the front beam that provide spring for the trailing arms. A little wire wheeling works great on rust!

    More pics to come!

It was originally a 2 seater, then modified to a 4 seater.....problem is I need a 5 seater  This will be a test to see if the family really likes it, then I will sell it and get a 5 seater.

Got more pics to share. Got the front beam re-assembled and bolted back on to the frame. Link and pin turning knuckles sandblasted and painted. New bushings pressed in using sockets and a vice:rofl: Steering box sandblasted and painted. Next will be installing the transaxle.

I broke two easy outs on a stud that was broken off in the steering box, but finally got it out!

At the local used tire shop got some decent all terrains for the freshly painted wide five baja wheels.

Steering box, coupler, and steering shaft in.

    Tie rods and shocks installed.

    Front end all done!

Sorry it's been a while since I have posted. The buggy is almost done! Carb adjustment, stop the tranny that leaks like a sive, figure out a mounting system for the oil filter, and bleed the brakes one more time. Last weekend took the kids around the block in it and what fun!. A couple of weeks before that, the clutch and throwout bearing were not right! Turns out I used the wrong pressure plate, There is a late model and early model throwout bearing and each one has it's own pressure plate that it uses. Long story short, I grenaded the clutch fork and killed the throwout bearing. In the picure you can see the TO bearing all chewed up and part of the clutch fork sitting on the bottom of the bell housing:rofl: Luckily it is really easy to pull the motor on this thing....took about an hour. Welded up the clutch fork..re-installed and back in business. Pics of the finished buggy to come soon.

Okay....last post to this build. Buggy is pretty much finished. Just waiting for some billet brackets to mount the oil filter, and then it's ready for Hollister hills and Pismo! Hope you enjoyed some of the pics. I really enjoyed this build. Took approximately 6 months to complete. I have a finer appreciate for VW's now. I will also be building a stroker motor for this sandrail...gonna be a 2010. It scoots as it is now with the 1600 in it. Enjoy.

Used a single relay for the lights...2 100w and 2 55w, a couple to tail lights and the whip light.
