Ok, here is the scoop on what i did wrong... not only did i mess up the distributor timing by putting wires on wrong posts so #2 through 6 were out of time (rough running overheated easily) but also messed up my oil pump...

Oil pump turned fairly freely or so i thought when i installed it. Strangely enough it gave pretty low oil pressure but I was not overly concerned because it is volume that is important (10-12 psi at idle 25 at 2500). I decided to change the spring to the red color that came with the Melling Hi volume kit, and WOW! 60-70 psi! During engine assembly I noted the camshaft-mounted distributor drive gear looked worn - tried finding replacement but no luck so back in it went... wrong answer... apparently the high drag of the oil pump caused that gear to wear and break, wiping out the distributor shaft gear as well. Luckily I am pretty sure it happen right at shutdown based on the noise and the lack of ferrous metal chunks in oil pan... at least some luck was on my side...

So, i have ordered a new distributor shaft gear, a new oil pump kit, new oil pump cover, front seal, gaskets, etc... HERE IS WHERE I NEED HELP: The camshaft-mounted distributor drive gear - part number? who sells?

I'm not talking about either of the chain sprockets - every auto parts person I have talked to assumes that is what i need - actually got ina fairly heated debate at one place witha obnoxious know it all who insisted the gear was integral with the camshaft and would not listen to me...
It is a 1967 odd fire 225 from a Commando...

    thanks in advance!

Just a side note: 10-12 at idle is actually pretty good for a Buick v-6. They leak like crazy with 70 lbs of oil pressure.
