Ive been driving the CJ5 more lately.. and have a new mechanical oil pressure gauge. So, I've been monitoring it and am wondering if I should change the oil pressure spring to a lighter one. First.. I have the 225 :v6: with a high volume upgraded stock oil pump. This is what I am getting for oil pressure after driving around and warmed up in 80 degree weather, Running on 10-30w oil(recently changed)...

    750 rpm - 35 psi
    1200 rpm - 40 psi
    2500 rpm - 60 psi
    3500 rpm - 70 psi

My concern is if too much oil would be bypassing the filter and cause damage to the bearings.

First, I would want to check the gauge if it were me. That word "new..." is often a big diagnostic clue.

i wouldnt worry about it. theres a lot of people that would give there left leg to have that kind of pressure. i have a 350 sbc in my old 55 M38a1 and it will run 80 or better pretty much all day.

Well for a stock 225 with 10W30 and up to temp, from 3 diff engins in great shape with stock oil pumps they run 10-12 at idle and up to 35-40 above 2500 rpm. From all my reading on this 225 series engine that would be normal.

You really don't need more than 50psi (10 psi/1000 rpm). You may be setting yourself up for a seal failure or Dist gear failure with those pressures pushing greater flow. I have a new stock type Melling pump and with the 50# spring I run at 50 all the way through the rpms. It'll fall off a little sitting at idle and gets up to about 60 psi at >3500 rpms but runs rock on 50 psi everywhere else.

I think I'll go ahead and try a lighter spring.. I have one lighter spring and the stock spring.
