Anyone know if this motor would fit into a CJ3 along with the automatic transmission?

Nope. The Auto is probably going to be way long.

Motor too tall maybe??????? Like when youm put an F-head in a 2A and have to cut a hole in the hood. Maybe in a 3B.

I can't say if it'll fit or not, but I've always thought an AMC 2.5L would be a good powerplant for an ECJ, especially being a Jeep engine, itself - albeit, stripped of all the emissions, electronic, and vacuum stuff and fitted to a good ol' 3 or 4-speed. :)

I have seen a 225 and TH400 in a 3A. It can be done, but you have to consider how many compromises you need to make in order to do it.

So which transmission, the 904? Here's a picture:

If it came from a CJ, it will have the proper drop, but a centered output. Thus your rear axle would have to be changed. If from a XJ/YJ/TJ it would have a driver's drop, and you'd need to locate a passenger drop transfer case, plus change the rear axle.

If I really wanted a 4-cylinder with an automatic in a flatty, I'd probably go with the Chevy 153 and a TH350, using the original D18.

If you have access to the possible donor, get out your tape measure ... make measurements of the donor and your Jeep and see what it would require.

Plus, a TJ motor would be fuel injected. While that could be a big plus, getting the fuel system and electronics hooked up could be quite an issue.
