I'm working on my D18 transfer case, and found this on top of it. I have a T98 transmission if that helps. Does anyone know what this thing is?

This little thing is about the length of a man's thumb, and appears to be made of bronze or brass. It does not have any holes in it. I just can't figure out where it came from, and I don't remember seeing it before. A few years ago I rebuilt the transfer case, and I installed the overdrive and PTO after that. Again, this part doesn't remind me of anything from those units. Maybe it came out of the overdrive, but I can't see where it may have come from.

Can't use HTML in the forum, use the [IMG ] code that photobucket provides.

See the help section for more.

I don't recognize it as a Jeep part, unless it's something from an automatic transmission.

Okay, well I have no idea what it is either. My best theory to date would be the little plug that fits into the hole in the back of an overdrive where the shift rail slides back and forth. My OD was removed rebuilt and reinstalled; it has a plug now ... don't remember if it had one before. But that's just a wild guess.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll put it on a shelf and hope it wasn't important. (Thanks Sparky for the IMG advice; I saw that on Photobucket, but picked HTML instead! Now I know.)
