Like Patrick, I also ran the SkyJacker Softride 2.5" on the '71.
I've ridden in similar rigs with all other spring types and brands... I think the Skyjacker softride is about the softest bolt-in SUA spring on the market for ECJ5s... of course not including YJ conversion or Holbrooks.

These work very well in a stock-weight vehicle, and really shine when combined with Rancho adjustable shocks.

Installing these allows an early CJ to easily outflex a stock YJ, and is about equal in flexibility to a stock TJ with sway bar disconnected. With adjustable shocks set on 1 or 0 on the trail, this combo will ride more comfortably on the trail than a stock TJ.

Rigs that are heavier than stock might see some eventual flattening/sagging of these springs. In that case (as was mine) some slightly extended shackles help to restore the tub to level while keeping a soft flexible ride.

Of course the softer ride comes at the expense of some additional body roll... something one has to adjust to if one doesn't have sway bars.

I installed the Skyjacker softrides in ~1996 on the '71. They are still on, and serving the new owner quite well.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys,
Lynn, you have totally convined me that the softride is the way to go. I might have to save a few more pennies but it sounds like it will be worth it installing the Rancho adjustable shocks.

thanks again for all of the feedback.

I have a set we put on the '49 build ('68 frame/running gear). It should be running in a couple weeks and wheeling a couple after that. Budget is the issue with shocks on this one... what to do :)
