On a 72 and later stock CJ steering intermediate shaft, how does one get the splined cup which attaches to a power steering box off the shaft? )The part which sits at the other end of the intermediate shaft from the universal joint) I need to replace the rubber boot. I have gotten the circular metal spring clip off but now it feels like there is a lip in there holding the cup onto the shaft.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

Easiest to unbolt and drop the steering box so the bell coupler will slide off.
    In my opinion.

I have shaft entirely out of the vehicle so the splined cup is off the steering box. I cant get the cup off the shaft. I have not started smacking it with a hammer yet.

with clip removed, should come off
    smack lightly
clean and check for wear once removed

make sure the bolt used to hold it onto the shaft is completely off as there may be a groove in the shaft where the bolt rides/
