Hey guys. I've got a 4 speed 73 CJ5. I'm sure you're all aware of how it shifts into 4wd. Its linear in this order from top to bottom. 4wd Low, N, 2wd, and 4wd High.

For some reason I cannot get to 4wd High for some reason.

Any thoughts guys? I'm trying to switch on a gravel surface and I can go between the rest of the gears no problem.

    Thanks.

Usually it's 4LO that causes all the shift problems. Have you tried moving very slowly in reverse while shifting into 4HI?

    Are the hubs locked in?

You should be able to shift into 4HI at any speed. Usually it's easy, and not a problem even when standing still.

The linkage is often worn. Some of the pieces are available for replacement, such as the links with ball joints. I'd pull the cover on the floor and make sure that everything is well lubed and there's no interference with caked on mud, sticks, rocks, or whatever.

I have a body lift so 4 hi is real close to hitting the tub but it still goes in. My problem is 4 lo it will go to 2 lo but i have to tap on the rod while pulling on the shifter for it to go into 4 lo.
