finally found a 4 1/2 sag. leak fix ?

finally found a ps saginaw with 4 1/2 turns lock to lock out of a 75 or 76 jc5 shell. it may have a leak where the input spindle enters from the steering wheel side. will a rebuild kit solve this? do i need to rebuild the whole box?

seems solid otherwise. easy to turn no lash.

 

would rebuild it for peace of mind.

NAPA also has the input shaft seal....I've never done one but heard it is an easy replacement

i was afraid you meant that. all i can find so far is the complete seal kit for a reasonable $.

i'll keep looking tho napa seems high.

 

I'd inspect the bearings, replace the seals and adjust per the FSM. You should be able to buy any individual bearings if they are suspect. Look for galling on the ball race.

Yeh, transfer of metal to/from the surface, caused by sliding instead of rolling.
