Has anyone bought/used one of these setups ? I am thinking of getting this.. to powder coat some steel wheels I have. I am wondering.. how much powder would I need to do one wheel ? Say just one side. Its about $1 per ounce for the powder. I am wanting to know how good the coating turns out ?? Anyone got any pics of results using this system ?

I did hear a guy badmouth it, but he was a pro powdercoater, so whaddaya expect?

Either he is used to using "pro" equipment, or..... yeah, it sucks, pay me to do it.

He did say he didn't like to powdercoat wheels cause they would always rust between where the outer rim was welded to the inner rim. Customers would come back to complain. FWIW.

That's intresting.. did he say how to prevent that ? Was it from the rim actually having rust in there before powder coating or did the rust form after the powdercoating ?

It had to do with the powdercoating not getting into the groove good as I recall, we were discussing sandblasting some old jeep rims I had and then coating them.

Course rust is bad(horrible bad) over here in Hawaii/salt air.

I am actually about to do a set of old 16" jeep rims. I think I am going to have them sandblasted, then brush on some primer to make sure it gets into the cracks good, then spray some epoxy primer over that, then the paint (real car paint). Not sure on a primer though, thought of using rustoleum brush on, don't know how the epoxy and topcoat will like it though.

I had my steel rims powdercoated a few years ago and that's my only complaint. The rust especially shows with the white color. The rims were new before. So, they didn't have any rust beforehand. I don't know if regular paint would've been better though.
