so as some of you know i completed the Mercedes diesel swap this weekend. long story short i need more suspension lift it properly clear the oil pan.

Trick is i already have a spring over lift......i think a 2.5" or so? ive got 33's

So would the springs for a bigger lift be custom or? Are some springs stiffer than others to help prevent age sagging etc etc as the diesel is heavy as a 350 chevy.

The 350 Chevy is not heavy, as engines from that era go. The original F-head is no lightweight.

What kind of springs do you have now? Did you do the spring over, or did a PO?

unless your springs are pretty worn out and flat, being spring over puts you closer to 5-6" of lift.

However, if it really is only 3" of lift, it sounds as though your springs are worn. If that is the case, getting replacement springs, or having your springs re-arced could get you enough clearance. However, when you get to 5+ inches of lift, you begin to run into serious driveshaft issues.

At 563 lbs, a 617 is heavier than an all-iron sbc and a lot heavier than an sbc with a few aluminum parts. As to the springs, are they still the 1.75" cj springs or wrangler springs? In either case, a set of say, 2.5" lift springs, should do the trick.

I got to ask: How are you getting into this thing? Springboard and a running start?

I stand a hair under 5'6". That is why mine got lowered 5 inches, so I can get into the silly thing. It used to be so hi I could roll under my steps on my crawler to do the level checks in the Tranny and TC.
