Which way does this install? I think the tapered end goes down into the exhaust pipe and the other side goes up into the manifold. The parts manuals don't show any detail. Figured I'd ask since I won't be able to see the area of interest when I take it apart. Thanks.

    You're correct.

The metal flange keeps it centered in the manifold while installing/tightening.

Yes, the tapered end fits in the pipe.

Not to put a fly in your ointment - but ...

Felpro used to sell an all-steel replacement for the composition (doughnut) gaskets. Much better - won't blow out after 10K miles or so. The steel gasket was the Jeep service part after 1975 or so. Just FYI.

Having blown out a new Felpro composite with less than 2000 miles on it half way between Asheville NC and Knoxville TN I would wholeheartedly give my vote to the all steel.

    Now ya tell me.

I did find a Walker PN for a few more dollars but no one had it in stock. I guess the Walker was the all steel deal. Had I seen one I probably would have bought it.

FYI this gasket is apparently a metal coil compressed to the tapered shape.

I'll use it for now and get a good one for a spare. Luckily it's pretty easy to change this on the 258.

    Thanks for the help.

I can't find a listing for the Felpro steel part now. The Walker part is likely the same as the one you have.

I'd try a muffler shop, if my FLAPS could not get one.

Well if anyone has a PN for the steel part please let me know. The FLAPS guy's here try, but they ain't real good without a PN or their computer.
