Happy Thanksgiving to all! While putting 1-1/2" rear shackles on the CJ, it occured that I should share the trick I learned from changing the spring perch bushings. Everyone will tell you to get special presses, burn the rubber out with a fire wrench, Yada yada yada! Since mine had obviously spent 38 years in place, they were shot. The center sleeves were easily driven out. Some of the rubber bushings came right out, and the others I cut out easily with a pocket knife. The steel outer sleeves, however, were a challenge. No amount of pounding, pressing, cussing, praying would even budge them. The saws-all was the savior! Now you need to be careful with this, but with a metal cutting 18 or 24 tooth blade you can insert the blade into the bushing and cut through the outer sleeve in two or three places. Then you can pry or drive out one section and rest fall out. Takes about a minute per bushing. Again be careful, because lots of other bad things can happen if you are not.

    JK: Good tip.

Used the same method to remove a frozen short extension on an under sink drain pipe.
