I'm trying to put a Bendix axle shaft back together and I'm having trouble getting the center ball pin to drop into the center ball. Vernco says they usually drop with gravity or with tapping on a workbench but I'm not finding any love.

There was grease in the pin hole that you retract it into when placing the bearings into the grooves and I cleaned it the best I could. I used a thin probe in the lock pin hole to try to push it down but only pushed it out a little way.

I also tried grabbing a hold of the small portion of the pin that I got to protrude into the joint with a small pair of needle nose pliers but there's not enough to grasp.

Does anyone have any ideas or secret techniques? Thanks.

Wish I could offer you some advise, but that's one Jeep part I've never had a conversation with. But, you better get on it. You only have 2 months before the big trip! :)

I'll just keep fidgeting with it until I get it. If all else fails I can use a set of Spicer u-joint shafts that I have set aside for trail parts.
