Anyone with a stock 72 to 75 304 carb

After I pulled the 401 out of a 79 full size, I replaced it with a 304 from my buddies 360 swap in his CJ. Got the full size running with the 304 and sold it to my friend. He seemed to have carb problems and wanted to confirm it. Here's where I screwed up in hindsight. I told him he could borrow my carb off the 304 in my 75 CJ 6 for a few trips around the block to see as I knew my carb ran fine. I wasn't home when he just had to test it that minute and he and his dad removed it without me being there . 3 months later with much bitching, I get my carb back and it was missing parts. More yelling and another month, I get just the thick black spacer and two thin gaskets.
Can someone please tell me or better yet, post a picture of the spacer between the manifold and the thick black spacer under the carb.

Sorry no pics, but as I recall the thick black spacer that sits on top of the plastic spacer is more of a gasket. A really thick gasket. I always replace it along with the gasket that goes between the manifold and the plastic spacer.

Also, check the plastic spacer for cracks. The plastic seems to degrade with engine heat and cracks easily when being removed.

It's called a phenolic spacer and the purpose is to prevent heat transfer to the carb that can lead to vapor lock.
