I am putting new shock mounts on my jeep now and am not sure were to mount them. I know that they should be just about straight, but am not sure were to mount to the axles? Should they point in tword the center of the vehicle? Please send me as much info as you can. Pics of other custom rigs would be great. Thanks. BTW my jeep is off road only, dana 44's, 35X14.5X15 boggers, buick 350, SM465, dana 300, and a custom body that is still in the works so clearance of that is not an issue.

I've looked at this a bit. For the rear you may have to go through the floor to get a shock with enough travel that won't bottom out when the axle comes up if you want the shock to be vertical. I would instead consider tipping the shock over so that the top end goes forward (on the frame) or inward (on a cross member).

Tipping the shock makes it less effective which is just another way of getting better flex.

Bottom: I would look at welding a mount to the axle tube near where the springs mount. I hate to see these hang down below the bottom of the axle tube (most factory pickups) so perhaps on the front side so it's just flush with the bottom of the axle tube?

Thanks, I will take a better look at it and see what will work now that I have these new idea's.

I ended up mounting the lower part of the shock to the rear of the axle tube to a peice of square tube stock that extened them about 4 inches back from the axle (hoping this will help spring wrap) and then ran the top to the last crossmember. At the top the 2 shocks are only about 3 inches apart, so they are tilted inward. It seems to work real nice, bit due to lack of a radiator I can not really test them yet. Now to tackle the fronts? I will post pics as soon as you I get time to set up a little site. Happy wheelin guys. Zach

Do the math, guys. A shock mount that is anything but perpendicular to the direction of travel of the axle will be less effective than than a mount that is vertical. The factory used angle-mounting solely to soften the ride.

that can be ok though depending on valving, if you have a shock like the skyjacker hydro that beat you to death it may be better to run them at an angle to get a little softer ride, especially on a light vehicle like the jeep. most "performance" shocks like skyjacker, pro comp etc.. are generically valved for pickups which are much heavier.
