Hi, I have bought a 1943 Willys GPW with a swapped in Buick odd fire V6. As I am putting back together I am finding I have alot of questions. The Transmission is a T90 with the output shaft stamped as T86. The bellhousing I think is from a 1971 CJ5 but has a "home made" adapter plate. And I think the Trowout Bearing and Clutch lever are from the a CJ5 as well. Does this type of conversion sound right? Would they have repalced and other T90 parts with the T86?

    Any thoughts would help.........

my first thought is, (and others have more knowledge) you have a t90 with a home fab short input conversion, based on the length of the input shaft, the t86 is on the input shaft bearing retainer which might allow the use of normal cj5 clutch throwout components while using the more common t90 parts. on a 5 this would bring the crossmember and shifters forward 2"

The T-86 Bearing retainer would allow for the proper TO Bearing for the V6 - It also looks to be machined back closer to the tranny case for TO clearance. Yes - you have an old school adaption as they normally have the adaptor that uses the long input shaft and a thick adaptor plate.

I have not see one like that in many years.

So in essence one does not HAVE to have the long-input shaft to mate a T-90 up to a Dauntless? Hmmmm...

looks to be a long shaft to me...
only savings would be to not having to buy an adapter
T86 bearing retainer and a piece of steel plate

    That's an interesting set-up using the T-14 bell-housing with the T-86/T-90. I was going to go a similar rout with a T-15.
