Flasher goes crazy

It was just brought to my attention by a friend following me today that my turn signal flasher randomly flashed very fast. Sure enough, it did.

All the wiring, bulbs, turn signal, flasher, etc. is all brand new.

Anyone have any ideas?

 

Are you running LEDs?

 

Blinker rate is dependent on electrical load. More load -> more power -> faster heating -> fast flashing. This assumes you are using the old-fashioned blinker relays.

How many bulbs are you driving?

I would think that LEDs would refuse to flash, rather than flashing too fast. But LEDs are a constant current drain, whereas bulbs draw less current as the filament heats up.

 

I'm using an original style wiring harness with standard bulbs in the grill and tail lights, so 4 lights total

 

First thing to do is to swap out the blinker relay.

If that does not help, look for a short. I'd measure ground resistance of the bulb shell to the (-) post of the battery, then measure resistance of each (+) bulb lead to ground.
