Water in SparkPlug hole?

My buddy just bought a jeep from someone for $300.00. It dosent run ofcourse. We were taking out the spark plugs when we found one cylinder filled with water!!!

What do you think? Blown Head gasket? The jeep has been sitting there for a long time. The water/sparkplug had rust color. I think the rings are rusted for sure.

This is only in one chamber all other plugs chambers are fine.

Major rebuild?

 

What motor is in the Jeep?

The flat head were known for alowing rain water to seep into the cylinders thru spark plug hole due to the cone shape on top of the head.

 

Just maybe ………if the top was off the carburetor, and some water got in there, and the intake valve was open, this could have allowed water into that one cylinder. Just a guess.

And it could have been the head gasket had blown or had a leak at that one place.

The best news is that you are located in Florida. That means no super frigid weather that could really play havoc with the water freezing and busting the block.

Try and get the water out first. Probably by blowing it out with an air compressor, or maybe even wicking it out with cord or small rope stuck inside the sparkplug hole and letting the other end of the rope hang out below the rope on the inside. This will probably will take over night. This wicking action is the same thing that happens if you leave a towel hanging over the edge of a sink filled with water. The water will seek the lower position and will empty the sink.

Then put some marvel mystery oil in those spark plug holes let it soak a few days to help starting to the getting the rust out of the cylinder walls.

 

could water have been sucked up in there during a water crossing and the engine hydro-locked?
with all the plugs out can you turn the engine over?

 

I am going to try turning the engine over by hand tomorrow. Its a buick V6 225.

guess the best thing to do is do a rebuild. But the P/O said he had it rebuilt before parking it and the heads look real clean! shiny clean! Its been sitting for 2-3 years. I live in Arizona so I am not sure if he drove it through water or not.

Plus, when i emptied the radiator it seemed I should of got more water out than I did.

All other spark plugs look fine, but one does have some carbon on it, running a bit hot i guess.

Is it possible to just rebuild One piston?
I mean if it was really rebuilt before being parked and I only have water in one cylinder can i just replace the rings on that piston?

If its not locked up can i just get buy with removing the water and replacing the head gasket and cleaning out the rust?

I'd shoot a whole lot of PB Blaster in that hole first. Spray it in there and then leave it alone for 4 or 5 days. Go back and she if she'll roll over. If not, you'll probably have to tear it down. Yes it is possible to just re-do one cylinder. You'll have to pull the head and the pan. Getting the piston out will likely be tricky if it is stuck. A hammer and a block of wood usually work. After you get it out, soak the entire piston in kerosene for a week. The kerosene should un-stick the rings. Remove them from the piston and clean them up really good with some steel wool. Rehone the cylinder and put it back together.
