What a crack

As I started to go over the frame of my 62 CJ-5 I noticed a lot of crackes in the frame. Most of which I have no concerns on the method of repair. However, This crack does concern me. :? It is in the middel of the left hand frame rail, right in front of the frame support for the transfer case and the support for the cluch and break peddals. :? Any ideas? :hurrican:

 

That's where my first frame was broken too... If your frame has lots of cracks you might want to consider swapping it out. It's a common joke that early CJ-5's are the only vehicles where the frame is a bolt on accessory. My only suggestion to repair that is to drill a hole at the end of the crack to stop it. V it out. Weld it with only as much heat as absolutely necessary. A MIG welder would be best. Make a diamond shaped plate and weld it over the crack, again using only as much heat as necessary. Then stitch-weld straps to the top and bottom of the frame rails, but don't weld the ends.
