What's this knob on my distributor?

    I did the search thing, but could not find any info on this knob I have on my Auto-lite distributor-IAD 4041. This is the distributor on my 1955 CJ5.

    I believe that is an oilier.. Pull on it and it should expose a hole to put a few drops of oil in.

    Clean the dirt off with a small wire brush before you open it though. You might need to soak it in penetrating oil to get it to budge.

    DON'T use pliers on it, the outer shell is fairly flimsy and you can bend it if you aren't careful.

    Thanks all, when I first saw it, I gave it a little twist and thought it might be some type of tuning device. So it's just an oiler, hmmm, I'll check it out.
