    Hi Bigg -

The Tux was Jeeps first move to market the CJ to a more suburban audience, as opposed to the farmers it was targeting the Jeep to.

The Tux is a trim/conveince package that added chrome badeges, hinges, bumpers, wheel covers, etc, but also different springs, column shift, wheelhouse pads, spare tire cover, etc.

Jeep put out a "parts peculiar" guide to the dealers in the '60's detailing all the differences, but we're still looking for a copy of that to post on the site here.

It is one of the rarer variants of the CJ, so if yours is pretty complete and unaltered you might want to consider a restore or selling it to a restorer.

    Sparky,
I know the quality will dimisih a bit, but you could fax the list to me, i can scan it and send it bak to you. i can save it in a higher resolution format to try and reduce much distortion, or rather reduce anymore quality lot from the fax.

    Dan,
PM me with your fax # and I'll see if I can get my wife to fax it to you tomorow.

It was faxed to me but our faxes come in on our network so it was printed off on a Laser printer and looks very nice still.

If the quality after faxing again is too bad I'll just mail it to you USPS.

In the June 1964 Willys service & parts news is a column on the CJ-5A & CJ-6A. It states that they just entered production and lists some of the principle differences 1) serial # prefix is 8322 for CJ-5A, 8422 for CJ-6A. 2) These vehicles are equipted with 10" single anchor brakes with starwheel adjustment . 3) A 35 amp Motorola alt. is funished . 4) Remote column mounted transmission shifter. 5) Single lever transfer case shift 6) 6.50 x 15 tires . 7) Two stage springs front & rear. Service Bulletin # 741 provides more information on service differences. Nelson

Wow, another tux owner in Ohio?
Peek behind the battery on the firewall. There should be a couple numbers, like 222 and/or 226. Those designate the inside trim colors. Also, post your serial # and a few pics!! Where exactly are you located?

    Hello guys,
I just recently bought a 63 Kaiser CJ5. It has a column shift and a single lever transfer case. It has the F-Head 134 in it. Does this make it a Tuxedo model for sure?

A 63 would be one of the more rare Tux Parks, a Mark III?

But yes, most likely with the column shift and single lever. Got a VIN?

    Any chrome dodads?

Oh yeah....sorry about the double post. I looked at the dates on these replies after I posted 1st and thought maybe it was too old. Lack of experience. I guess Big Brother IS watching.

DOH! It is a '63 isn't it. R) Nevermind, it won't have a Tux prefix.

In '64 they changed the VINs and with that came the CJ-5A which has a Tuxedo Park Prefix.

As I noted, your '63 is more rare than any of the 5A's, even if it is "just" as package rather than a separate model.

this will probably explain the holes in my hood along the fenders on both sides. I have the snorkel cut-out but I thought someone had drilled holes for some reason. This must have been for chrome strips I suppose. Are parts for the column shift tranny available anywhere?
