What do the oil and gauges look like on a 73? Are they the same as the 76-83 ones on Morris4x4?

White printing, red-orange pointer, chrome ring, about 180 degree sweep. Made by Stewart-Warner. Later models have a voltmeter, so that will be different. I think the oil pressure gauge is basically the same.

Mmm, yeah, I have those in my CJ-6.

That said, I would not buy them again. In my experience (long ago), the S-W gauges use the same lighting as the original gauges, so you can plug the existing light sockets into the back of the new gauges.

Plus I prefer this mechanical oil gauge: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SWW-82323/ - its response time, with the S-W installation kit, is very fast - the needle climbs like a tach when you race the engine. The AutoMeter gauge has a much longer lag' whether that's in the gauge or the installation kit I do not know.

I have a mechanical Autometer oil gauge and it has no lag whatsoever. The needle is very responsive. Might have more to do with the installation than the gauge. The Autometer gauges come with different colored lenses you can install over the bulbs, the green one is a very close match to the original gauges and matches the speedo cluster well.

Could be. I used the AutoMeter copper installation kit. There are no kinks or binds in the tubing... I used the S-W nylon installation kit with the S-W.

I used nylon line. Maybe the coefficient of friction is less with nylon than with copper?

    Or the ID is larger.

I bought the nylon AutoMeter installation kit, and it leaked so terribly that I went to copper.

The S-W nylon installation kit was great. Covered it with vacuum tubing though, and kept it away from the exhaust manifolds.
