I have been meaning to ask this for a while.

When I got my Jeep it had been converted to a F4 (from stock v6). It had the F4 throttle linkage.

When I converted back the V6 (231 ef) I went with a modified later CJ7 gas pedal, and a matching cable type linkage.

Can someone provide me with some reference pics of a stock gas pedal and stock linkage under the hood. I know there is a piece that bolts to the firewall, that is the piece I am most interested in.

Not sure I would ever bother to change as my setup now works fine, more of a curiousosity (SP?) thing.

I have looked the FSM, but would like some real pics.

    Thanks!

Jim, are those pop rivets holding the bracket to the firewall? Or are those protrusions threaded and the bolts come from inside the cab?

The cable I have is long so it has to be looped once before attaching to the bracket/carb after it leaves the firewall. Looks "butch", that's my only complaint. Even if I had a slightly shorter cable, where the cable comes out the firewall compared to where it attaches to the bracket/carb at is not exactly inline, it's off enough that its probably a good thing I have to do the loop. Hard to explain.

I also wonder if the stock linkage would have enough movement for my holley 4 barrel.

Thanks for the pics Jim, they are exactly what I wanted! Would kinda like to see the linkage above the pedal in the cab to though.

    Greg -

I have the same linkage as Jim. Mine broke where it was welded together on the round bar that passes through the firewall (probably a PO hack - don't see the weld on Jim's). Anyhow, since I had to build a new one I used a little bit longer piece of flat stock on the piece that is welded to the round bar that passes through the firewall and raised up the threaded rod about a 1/2 inch. I had enough throw for the holley without it - but just enough. Adding a little bit gave me plenty of throw.

the inside linkage is nothing more than a rod which is welded on the outer bellcrank you see in the pics; the rod is threaded, and the yoke threads onto the rod, and the pedal attaches to the yoke.
I can try and get a better pic
the bracket is bolted to the firewall; think it was that way on early 5s as well

Greg: Here's a pic. of the inside. That black rubber boot is just a replacement to seal the hole. Don't bother to buy one. It's only a year old and already falling apart. :(
